You have likely
heard the hype surrounding Microsoft Windows XP, the most ambitious operating
system since Windows 95, and its two versions --Windows XP Home Edition
and Windows XP Professional-- include a number of outstanding new features
for homes and businesses. The first thing you will notice is the streamlined interface design. The desktop more appealing and designed to make it easier to perform frequent tasks. For instance, Windows XP recognizes your most frequently used applications and displays them in a prominent position on the "start" menu. And the reorganized control panel now groups system tools by function instead of alphabetically. Perhaps the most welcome improvements are the increased stability and performance of Windows XP that Microsoft is touting. Windows XP is built on the same proven, rock-solid platform as the Windows 2000 operating system, which Microsoft says makes it far more stable than Windows 98 or Windows ME. Furthermore, they claim you should experience faster boot times and application startups, as well as be able to run more programs simultaneously with fewer system crashes.
If you already use Windows Media Player, MSN messenger, Internet Explorer and other Microsoft multimedia and Internet tools, you will be pleased to know that Microsoft has integrated advanced versions of each into Windows XP. Built-in Windows Media Player 8, for example, improves upon past versions of itself by adding the ability to play DVDs and burn CDs. And Windows Messenger, Internet Explorer 6, and the My pictures folder all boast improved features and performance over their predecessors. Whenever your home has one or several PC's, Windows XP makes it easy to share resources. In single-PC homes, the Fast User Switching feature lets you set up user accounts so everyone in the family can quickly access their own applications, files and custom settings. If you own two or more PC's, Windows XP's Network Setup Wizard walks you through the process of creating a home network that lets you share printers, files or an internet connection between all the PC's in your home. Together, Windows XP and our PC's and peripherals let you get the most out of digital images, music, video, the internet and the latest 3D games. For example, Windows XP is an excellent way to bring together one of our PC's, digital camera, scanner and printers to create a powerful, easy-to-use photography studio. This combination provides a versatile array of tools for acquiring, editing, storing, viewing and sharing digital images.
